Automobiles in Germany's City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement say early analysis show the liquid was most likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.

A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him without words and had to be resolved quickly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
